Keep Hemphill Beautiful

The City Encourages Citizens to Be Mindful of Littering

The City of Hemphill wishes to remind everyone that littering within the city limits of Hemphill and along the streets and thoroughfares of our city is illegal and is a violation of the City of Hemphill’s Code of Ordinances Chapter 20 Sec. 20-26 and is also a violation of Texas Health & Safety Code §365.012.  Litter weighing five pounds or less is a class C misdemeanor, punishable by a fine up to $500.  The City encourages everyone to keep litter off our streets in order to have a clean community that shows pride in its appearance.  You can report any illegal dumping or littering that you observe to local law enforcement authorities or code enforcement.  For more information, contact the City of Hemphill at (409) 787-2251.

The Texas Department of Transportation reminds Texas residents of what can be done below:

So what can you do when you see trash blowing in the wind and eventually landing on the side of our highways? Instead of delivering your own method of justice, we suggest turning the litterer in through the Texas Department of Transportation’s Report a Litterer Program. It’s an anonymous way to gently remind litterbugs they Don’t mess with Texas.

You can report a litterer at http://www.dontmesswithtexas.org/get-involved/report-a-litterer/.

Then, what happens?

TxDOT compares the information through the Department of Motor Vehicles registration database, and when an exact match is located, we send the litterer a Don’t mess with Texas litterbag along with a letter reminding them to keep their trash off of our roads.

And you can feel good about doing something to clean up our beloved Lone Star State and local community.

The City of Hemphill appreciates your cooperation in our efforts to Keep Hemphill, Sabine County, and Texas Beautiful.
